You’ve been telling yourself you want to get to know your camera better. You’ve been looking for a challenge that will push you, motivate you, but one that’s not impossible to stick with. 365 is too demanding; you need a smaller dose.
Something that will force you to use your photography muscles…
Something with a variety of ideas to push your creativity…
Announcing…

I’d like to run things a bit different from last year. First, I’d like to use the blog instead of Flickr. I’ll have a link on Fridays. Once a month I’d like to feature some of the really interesting, inspirational, or exemplary images here at the blog – with links to the artist so we can all get to know them better. By request there will be 52 specific challenges. We will be assigned themes for each week. You may interpret them with whatever artistic license you wish to employ.
Details:
- Participating in p52 means you have a blog or Flickr stream to link back to.
- You agree to use permalinks to the p52 post / image only.
- Photo must be taken within the past 7 days – digging up old photo defeats the challenge.
- Linking at p52 implies you may be featured here at m3b, with proper credit and acknowledgement of your work, and you agree that I may use your week’s image to show your work. All featured images will have a link to the artist’s blog or Flickr stream.
- Amateur and professional artists are welcome, but any signs of abuse or misuse or inappropriate photos will be banned.
I really don’t like to play bad cop, so let’s make this FUN, high energy… and something that you will actually challenge yourself to make the most out of that amazing camera you have.
Ready for the first few weeks’ assignments?
Week 1 – ending Friday, January 6: Resolution
Week 2 – ending Friday, January 13: Made with love
Week 3 – ending Friday, January 20: I Dreamed A Dream
Week 4 – ending Friday, January 27: Self-portrait
Week 5 – ending Friday, February 3: Shadows
Week 6 – ending Friday, February 10: Drink up!
Week 7 – ending Friday, February 17: True Love
Week 8 – ending Friday, February 24: Cabin Fever
Suggestions for future weeks can be left over on the m3b Facebook page where I’ve started taking requests! Please suggest theme ideas there.
I cannot wait to see how you all interpret these challenges, and I look forward to getting to meet new photographers!
Happy New Year!

You can count me in!
Great pictures! Happy New Year from the W-Bar-E Ranch.
I would love to do this.
I’m not sure how to follow the rules, as far as linking to flickr, but I’m sure I’ll figure it out.
Thanks for hosting this
Christina
Happy New Year! I am looking forward to doing this…will further instructions be posted on how we post our photos? I am new to this, so sorry if I missed it elsewhere. Thx!
I was considering a 365 project for my blog but worried about getting overwhelmed by it. This seems much more manageable! Do I just post the photo on my blog and then link to this page? A little unclear about the posting procedure. Oh, and just to let you know, I am stealing your banner to advertise my participation (and your project) on my blog today! Look forward to participating!!
Loved the project 52 last year although I did not use Flick, I kept joining doing it with your button on Sweet Shot Tuesday, so I will more than likely join up with yours. Thanks. Happy New Year to you and yours.
I’m going to give this a try. Sounds like fun.
Count me in. So if I understand correctly we will link up on your blog and not Flickr… right? Wanting to see where and how.
I would definitely like to participate in this great project. How do I sign up?
I am looking forward to this. I hope I keep up with it. :/ You inspire me a lot, so this should be great!
Count me in, improving my photography is one of my goals for 2012 & I have never tried participating in a link party before so thats another thing to learn for me…YAY!!!
Thanks for the inspiration & the themes will definately help!!
this is awesome!! Great Idea, Darcy!
I am really looking forward to this!
Help! I don’t see a linky??? Is it open yet??? Look forward to participating in the project. Thanks.
Forget my post…I just figured it out! Sorry!
Can you share how you figured it out? Thanks!
Can you teach us? I want to do this project but do not understand how.
Have another question – what if you are traveling or on vacation and you have pictures for the week to submit but can’t get to a computer in time for the weekly post? Are late posts still acceptable? Thx!
What a fun way to get those of us with less time involved in learning our camera’s technology. One photo a week works well for me. I take a lot of photos throughout the week. My challenge will be to find one that fits the category –
. Thanks Darcy!
Hi! This sounds wonderful. I like the topic suggestions. I have a tendency to take only pictures of my daughter

I have a few questions.
Where do we put our images?
In the comments?
I do not know what this means: “permalinks to the p52 post / image only.”
I’ve never done any photo challenges before but, as many others, this is my new year’s resolution – I’m looking forward to taking part!

Hi everyone!
Great questions! Hopefully I’ve addressed them all here: http://my3boybarians.com/project-52-p52-weekly-photo-challenge/
Linky will be live on Fridays and stay live for 6 days – hopefully giving you plenty of time to link your blog post or Flickr image.
Explanation of a permalink is in the FAQ. Hope this helps. I’m thrilled to have so many participants to help keep ME motivated, too! xo!
Is the benefit to hosting on your blog just ease of management? When it was on Flickr you went to one place and scrolled through the pictures and could comment easily. Once everyone is posting to their own blogs, commenting becomes tricker because you have to sign in on each individual site if you want to comment on a picture. I still plan on participating using Flickr since I don’t have a blog but don’t know if I can keep up with checking out everyone’s photos if I have to click through to 100 or more sites each week. I’ve never done any linking before so maybe it’s easier than it sounds and still can foster a community. Sorry to sound pessimistic, I am looking forward to the challenge and am glad you are hosting it again, I will just need to adapt to the change!
Happy new year!! I am so in.
I’m in!
This is just the project I need. I was going to do a 365 project, but as I’m still new at this photography malarkey, that is probably a bit ambitious. This is something I can definitely get my teeth into!
Looking forward to it!
I just found your blog and started following you today. This sounds like an awesome project! So glad I found your blog! I am joining the project and will post a link to it on my tiny blog! Thanks for hosting!
I did Project 365 last year and only missed a handful of days… there were plenty of days that I was walking around my house before bed trying to find something interesting to photograph… and I just made a couple facebook albums to hold them all.
I like the idea of just 52 pictures, although have to stick to a specific theme scares me a little, but I am looking forward to the challenge!! Count me in!
Hi Darcy!
A friend of mine is on the challenge and I am having a great time seeing her pics and reading her posts on the pics as this is a way to feel closer to her (she’s my best friend and lives across the ocean).
I’d like to know if I can join the challenge now… I hope so… Well, as you said in your last P52 post (that was lovely, btw), 48 pics are better than none.
Cheers!
Absolutely! We’d love to have ya!
