Okay, upward and onward. Anyone who knows me in person is laughing their head off that I am about to make a fashion statement. Well, not a fashion statement, but a statement about fashion. I am no fashionista. But I got this ad in my inbox today from Banana Republic.

Okay, are those acid-washed jeans tight-rolled? Didn’t we learn our lesson already from tight-rolling our pants? That was a fashion disaster in 1987 from which I’ve barely just recovered.
And cut off jean shorts rolled up? Ewwwwwwww. Here’s the thing about cut-off jeans… they look good on approximately 3% of the world’s population – tall, skinny, leggy girls who are over 5’10″. Since that leaves out the other 97% of us, I have no idea what BR what thinking. And they’re $80.
I usually turn to Banana Republic since I have no fashion sense whatsoever, but they haven’t fooled me. Even I can recognize recycled styles from the late 1980s that are better left back in 1989. Those of you who were born in 1990 or more recently, consider this a public service announcement. As such, I am renaming this ad from “Looks you’ll want to live in” to “Looks you’ll want to run from.” Yer welcome.
Sweet Shot Tuesday will go up right after midnight! Get those photos ready!
We’ve got another great give-away.

Hahahaha!!
I’m over 5’10″ and thin and still think I look terrible in cutoffs. Sure wouldn’t pay $80 for them.
I usually like BR but this completely has me confused. Maybe it’s a late April Fools joke!

tight rolling is NOT a trend worth repeating for sure!! what next—auqa net frizzed bangs?!
Um, just shy of 5’10″ and pretty thin. Not wearing them. But I like the scarves and the chunky necklace. Yep to chunky, nope to skinny.
Thanks for the giggle. Oh, and my freinds and I have spied stirrup pants lately. Seriously now.

No way! I won’t be wearing anything tight rolled!
Amen. Amen. and Amen.
The whole leggings thing is enough of a fashion disaster and unfortunately those who do not know better {or who SHOULD know better} are the worst offenders.
And neon? Don’t even get me started…..

“those who do not know better {or who should know better } are the worst offenders”
!!!
Oh my word that made me laugh. Sooo true.
Oh my goodness… that does take me back to the good ol’ late 80′s!! Can’t believe that is a tread that is actually trying to make a come back! LOL
.-= Jennifer´s last blog ..Easter fun. =-.
That is totally frightening – tight rolled pants! Tell me this is a late april-fools day joke…please.
Ugh- looks like I’m going to head on the UN-trendy train if this is what is cool. Yuck. It was bad enough the first time- dear lord.

‘Nuf said.
Go away, acid-washed-tight-rolled jeans!!! GO AWAY!!!
.-= Rebekah @ It Only Gets Better´s last blog ..Saturday Snapshot =-.
Yep. Any of us that have lived thru the 80′s once DO NOT want to repeat it! Must be that the BP designers were born too recently to remember…
“Travesty”. Like that, Rebekah. Definitely fits!
bahahaha! Darcy your sense of humor is amazing.
and LOL @ that ad. gag.

To this, I say another repeat from the 80s….
gag me with a spoon!

Oh I do remember those and since I’m only 5’1″ it was a confidence downer:) I’ll have to come back to see what’s happening tomorrow:)

I like how the ad reads “P.S. Better hurry. These are limited-edition styles.”
What next Ghost Buster T-Shirts?
aheahheahheheahehhea! touche’, jill, touche’.
*snort*
Having flashbacks to pegged pants! NOOOO!!! Please say it isn’t so.

I was eight in 1987, but I remember that and it’s not a good memory! BR is soooo on the wrong track with those looks!
When I was in high school the “in” thing was cutting slits in the bottom of your jeans right at the seams. The more ragedy they were after washing, the better. Silly, right?
.-= Anna K.´s last blog ..Everyday Occasions Scrapbook~ Easter Egg Hunt =-.
Yes! I remember that one, too! I remember rubbing the bottom of the jeans against my brick / stoop to try and make it fray more.
Oh my.
Noooooo!! Not the rolled up pants! I used to do this 12 times a day in school! What a waste of time. Too funny…

awww i loved tight rolled jeans back in the day
my legs and hips were much smaller. I was still rolling my pants when this went outta style and hubby had to finally tell me to stop. I will admit the only thing keeping me from doing this now are my momma hips and the fact that David might disown me *gigg;e*
i wonder if wearing fifty-eleven socks scrunched down with keds will ever come back?
.-= Michelle´s last blog ..Well, Hopefully, That’s Over =-.
You forgot one thing – tall, skinny AND aged between 16 and 18 – that’s the statutory limit for wearing these things…. at least it SHOULD be!
.-= Cate´s last blog ..4 families in 4 days wk 14/4 =-.
Thanks for a good chuckle, Darc! No way, no how, not ever wearing that stuff again. Seriously, everyone knows the 80′s were a fashion nightmare but the music…NOW you’re talkin’!
Oh my this really made me laugh. Oh the scary things we did back then in the name of fashion, so seriously sad. I have a theory on why these are limited addition. I am sure someone found these scary relics of the past in some dark corner of a warehouse and said, “I am sure we can sell these now since we couldn’t sell all of them when they were first popular. Let’s call them ‘Limited Edition’ and sell them to the under 30 population who hasn’t been through this fashion disaster yet.” What do you think?
.-= Mommy Reg´s last blog ..My Not So Little Man =-.
You had to have seen that coming, Darcy. Last year I saw stirrup pants– STIRRUP PANTS!– at the store. And don’t even get me started on this whole leggings, wide belts and lumberjack plaid… I just want to know when the puffy wall-o-bangs is going to return. It’s just a matter of time…
.-= Marsha´s last blog ..Sweet Shot: backyard birdie =-.
Oh man, I saw this add too and about died. I have always turned to BR for my fashion sense and I cannot believe they have failed me with the jeans rolled tight around the ankles. NO. NO. NO! What next, stirrup pants? eek.
