Do you ever feel like you’re spinning your wheels? Working too much, sleeping too little, distracted by the demands of real life and the lure of the internet, always a step behind, and getting up to do it all again the next day?

If you’re me you over-caffeinate, under-sleep, over-work and always, always feel like you should be doing something else. My work is never caught up, is yours?
I work too much. I catch myself saying, “Okay… gimme 5 more minutes…”. I promise clients deadlines that mean time in lieu of sleep. I have to rerun loads of laundry that I forget about. I drink entirely too much caffeine to keep with it all. My friends read my emails more than hear my voice. I run two businesses. I homeschool my kids. I forget stuff all the time.
Have you been there, too?
It takes discipline. It takes priorities. For me, it takes accountability. I’ve started using my calendar program with a timer function to beep at me to keep me on track and accountable. It means being intentional with my time. I don’t turn the computer on before lunch. We don’t allow TV during the week. My calendar beeps at me with client projects every two hours until they’re done.
But sometimes, we just need to walk away. Intentionally close the computer. Curl up with a book, a child, a camera.
My friend MJ has been here, too. And she is encouraging Moms like us to remember to pause… to take a moment… and…
Starting on Monday, MJ wants Moms like us to remember to pause and be still. Breathe in. Be in the moment. Unplug.
Please visit MJ and learn more about this project. And be still. I am on board with this one 110%.
Also, over in my sidebar is this new button:
I would love to recruit more cheerleaders for Emma. She is an incredible little girl who is having a hard time right now. And what’s really cool, Dayspring – the amazing folks behind (in)courage – is sponsoring a card drive for Emma and her family. You can design your own card online and have it sent to Emma or her mom, Heather, for no charge.
Grab a PRAYers for Emma button here.
Send a card to Emma and Heather here.
Visit Heather and read Emma’s story here.
Thanks to Lisa, Dayspring and YOU. It makes my heart swell to see the blogosphere rally around one of its own.

I woke up feeling this way, before I even read your blog.
I use my timer too. Gotta run.
Ah… I’m not a mama, but that sounds all too familiar. I need to take time and be still.
I’ve been making a concious effort not to be so tied to my techy toys. To be available for fun with the boys (or the hubby). It’s been nice!

Well, Darcy, I think it’s because you’re so gifted. Remember, ‘To whom much is given ….” And, BTW – you’re MUCH too young to start forgetting things! Trust me.
Sounds like MJ’s on to something.

You are too good to me! <3
That MJ is a wise woman!
I really like the idea of not turning on my computer until Noon. I think that will be a huge re-arrange for me in my day, but it could be so fulfilling and refreshing! Nothing is too time sensitive that it can’t wait. Right? And with blogging, if it has to be rushed then it’s not good {for many reasons.}
I may not be able to do Noon, but I could do 10 or 11.
Heart you Darcy girl :]

We love this girl too.
And you? You are the beyond wonderful.
<3 Kiss that boy for me.
Totally needed to read this today. Thanks.

I thought I was the only one – lol! Truly though, not turning on the computer ’til after we get out lessons done works wonders for my ability to focus. No tv or computer games during the week for the kids. The other thing that I’ve found works wonder to keep my day moving more smoothly is to have all the food prep that I can do ahead for the day done the night before. THIS is awesome! Doesn’t help me lower my caffiene intake but hey, it’s something…
Thx for encouraging us with this post!

Be intentional, be still. Hard concept and harder to do for homeschooling, working Moms. I’ll try Darcy, thanks for putting it out there.
It is hard, isn’t it? I struggle to be intentional each and every day. Even if I don’t succeed, being cognizant of it all helps!
May the force be with us!
I have been following Heathers blog for years and me and my family are praying diligently for Emma. I love the card basket idea, I think me and my daughters will each send a card. Thank you so much for the button, I will post it on my blog.
