Well, you got a sneak preview of the school room when I posted this photo of Handy Man opening his my-wife-rocks Christmas gift.

But the room wasn’t really put together there. So let’s back it up a little bit.
We moved into this house 2 years and 2 days ago. Exactly.
And the moment the painters were rolling on the color on the school room walls, I hated it. Now hate is a strong word. I try to wield it sparsely so that when I do, it truly packs a punch. I strongly, strongly disliked the color.
I picked it out. And it looked dandy on the swatch. The problem is a swatch doesn’t indicate what will happen when the sun shines through two very tall windows and reflects off of a pumpkin-colored rubber floor on the warm khaki walls.
They looked pink.

There is no place for pink in a home filled with boybarians. Doncha think?
In that photo, you can see the granite. It’s mostly black with chocolate speckles and flecks of the pumpkin color. Doesn’t that sound artsy? I dunno. I just thought it was pretty. *shrug*
So, the built-ins were sprayed white. It’s “Cloud” to be exact. Careful with whites; if you pick a white-white, you risk looking stark and institutional. Cloud is not a true white.
Next Handy Man trimmed out the white board. I have no idea how he did it. But it looks nice. It’s Cloud, too.

Then came painting. Lots and lots of painting.

Oh, brown. Chocolate brown. Much, much better. Doesn’t Handy Man have the cutest buns? Alright. Stop looking. That’s enough of a peek. Okay one more. But only a quick one. So cute!
Once all the painting was done, Handy Man decided to use cork flooring on the walls. Yes, flooring. Yes, on the walls. It’s sturdier and prettier than a regular cork board. And you can still stick tacks and stuff on it. Pretty, huh?

The plumber installed the bar sink and faucet. The handle is on the left, because we are a predominantly left-handed school. And because we can. The plumber only looked at me funny for a minute.
And here it is in action.

We’re trying to guess my nephew’s Pictionary clue. Can you guess it?

Leave a comment with your guess to try and win a little somethin’ somethin’. It’s a good prize. You’re gonna want it. Leave your guess. Right or wrong, it’ll enter you to win. I’ll pick the winner on Sunday.
And reveal the prize. And quite probably tease you for your Pictionary guess.
Now… stop looking at Handy Man’s bootie and enter already.

Flyover? Flying over the water? Something like that?
The schoolroom looks fabulous! I’m really jealous.
The school room looks great, how fun foryou all.
My guess is “float”
scuba flippers
the room looks FABULOUS! love the schoolhouse light too!
I’m guessing “sailing”. My son looked over my shoulder and said “whoa – look at all the bookshelves!” We have bookshelf envy in this house.
I’m guessing submarine. And I love the schoolroom. Wow! I am salivating down here in Tejas!
WOW! I LOVE it! I would love to steal the white board idea, but our room has very little usable wall space so it might not work. I think if I had that many shelves I’d be too tempted to fill them up buying all kinds of new curriculum. : )
Looks like I missed the contest, but my guess is sky diving.
Kellie
I love the room! I’m sure your boys are totally secure enough in their boyhood to rock the pink hues…but I do LOVE the final result!
The Airliner that went down in the Hudson River. BTW, great school room. You are super lucky!!
This is an Incredible schoolroom! I know I’m a little late on commenting but I just found your blog from a link on Mt. Hope Chronicles. I am really in awe of that room and I’m gonna show my hubby, maybe he’ll do something like it in our next home.
You’ll have to pop over to my blog tomorrow. I’m doing my new basement reveal.
I liked your schoolroom look so much, I sent my husband out on that same day to buy paint to do our much-neglected basement in a similar paint scheme. I’ve been wanting to do it for the last two years, but I couldn’t decide on a color.
