Well, you got a sneak preview of the school room when I posted this photo of Handy Man opening his my-wife-rocks Christmas gift.

But the room wasn’t really put together there. So let’s back it up a little bit.
We moved into this house 2 years and 2 days ago. Exactly.
And the moment the painters were rolling on the color on the school room walls, I hated it. Now hate is a strong word. I try to wield it sparsely so that when I do, it truly packs a punch. I strongly, strongly disliked the color.
I picked it out. And it looked dandy on the swatch. The problem is a swatch doesn’t indicate what will happen when the sun shines through two very tall windows and reflects off of a pumpkin-colored rubber floor on the warm khaki walls.
They looked pink.

There is no place for pink in a home filled with boybarians. Doncha think?
In that photo, you can see the granite. It’s mostly black with chocolate speckles and flecks of the pumpkin color. Doesn’t that sound artsy? I dunno. I just thought it was pretty. *shrug*
So, the built-ins were sprayed white. It’s “Cloud” to be exact. Careful with whites; if you pick a white-white, you risk looking stark and institutional. Cloud is not a true white.
Next Handy Man trimmed out the white board. I have no idea how he did it. But it looks nice. It’s Cloud, too.

Then came painting. Lots and lots of painting.

Oh, brown. Chocolate brown. Much, much better. Doesn’t Handy Man have the cutest buns? Alright. Stop looking. That’s enough of a peek. Okay one more. But only a quick one. So cute!
Once all the painting was done, Handy Man decided to use cork flooring on the walls. Yes, flooring. Yes, on the walls. It’s sturdier and prettier than a regular cork board. And you can still stick tacks and stuff on it. Pretty, huh?

The plumber installed the bar sink and faucet. The handle is on the left, because we are a predominantly left-handed school. And because we can. The plumber only looked at me funny for a minute.
And here it is in action.

We’re trying to guess my nephew’s Pictionary clue. Can you guess it?

Leave a comment with your guess to try and win a little somethin’ somethin’. It’s a good prize. You’re gonna want it. Leave your guess. Right or wrong, it’ll enter you to win. I’ll pick the winner on Sunday.
And reveal the prize. And quite probably tease you for your Pictionary guess.
Now… stop looking at Handy Man’s bootie and enter already.

I have no idea. So I will guess: “Six Months In A Leaky Boat” by Crowded House. ‘Cause it looks like an upside-down boat on water
My guess would be The US Navy. The room looks great!
A plane that will go into the ocean!
Your room looks great..those shelves are just awesome!!!
-sandy toes
Cool looking school room. Love it! My DH’s guess…I had help…is Seaplane.
Love your blog…
Kim
My guess is that it’s a Seaplane!!
and I have serious envy over your totally gorgeous new school room … our school room is tiny, tiny, tiny! =)
Kathy
Water Landing?
Fab school room, much envy here!
What could be better than lots of shelves filled with lots of books??? Great room.
My guess is a U.S. submarine.
Have a great day!
Your school room rocks! I love it! Brown is one of my fav colors. Btw, I DID NOT check out Handyman’s bootie – I was admiring your beautiful walls! ;D
As to the pic, I have NO idea. A speed boat? Water shoes?
The room is gorgeous :]
Also, more bloggers need to post pictures of their husband’s rumps. I’m just sayin.
Let me see, I am guessing “The USS Sinking Ship”. You did say it doesn’t have to be correct…lol!
I am embarrassed to say I did check out your husband’s butt once, well, OK, maybe twice since you did mention it……

Love your room! What a wonderful place to work! You are sooo blessed to have a handy man hubby!
My guess is Shuttle landing on water or a scene from Top Gun.
Love the schoolroom. I dream of just having one, haven’t gotten to the actual layout and decorating level!
My guess is hovercraft.
I *love* playing Pictionary and I’m really fighting the urge to sit here at the computer, staring at the picture until I feel like I *really* know what it is…but I have four other people here who would really like some breakfast.
Oh, wait! I think I may have it: a water jet (jet ski).
What an awesome schoolroom!
Firstly, I am totally drooling over all your lovely wonderful bookshelves. Lucky, lucky woman!!
Secondly, my guess: a US fighter jet/bomber flying overseas…. (hmm, can you guess I live amongst boys?)
us submarine is my guess.
love, love, love the school room! So beautiful!
I love your room. It looks so spacious and I do love the color, although I liked the first one too. Our living room ended up that way. Light tan on the swatch, Pepto-bismol pink when the light hit it. Oh well, we coped. I’m going to show these pictures to my “handy man” and see if I can’t get him to paint the basement this winter. That color combination looks spiffy!
Oh and my guess – Jetski.

Hovercraft LOL.
Okay, I gasped about 5 times looking at your schoolroom. Now I must go wipe the drool off the keyboard.
BTW, CHOCOLATE BROWN?! YUM!
love the shelving! and the colors are gorgeous. my pictionary guess is… floating on the water? wait, i’ve never played pictionary, are they supposed to be nouns? drat! oh well LOL
Hmmm, watershoe? Wave rider? I don’t know, but whatever you’re giving away, I want it! : )
I LOVE your schoolroom. Wow!! My guess is US submarine.
Stacy
Looks like a submarine to me, a diving submarine. Love the schoolroom. You are one busy gal with your business AND home-schooling the 3B’s!
Deborah at Webajeb
Those shelves are awesome! Handy Man did an exceptional job.
My guess…a hovercraft?
My guess is hovercraft. Second is seaplane. And I didn’t look at any previous commenters, either….
I’m off to find a napkin to take care of the drool puddle in front of my computer monitor. The schoolroom is FABULOUS!!! (Did you think I meant the Handy’s Man heiny? LOL) I’m so jealous! I mean, *happy* for you to have such a wonderful room.
Blessings…
First I wanna let you know I was not looking at Handy Man. I was however admiring your bookshelves and then the pictures with the bookshelves and books came and I was a goner. Lovely!
I’m no good at Pictionary so can I just admire your books and shelves from afar? LOL My guess is global warming. I told you I’m no good.
That is fabulous!!! I love it!! And the first thing that came to mind is a submarine…but I have no clue! haha!
I am going to guess a seaplane or submarine, maybe a rocket. I really have no clue.
I love your schoolroom. I know the boys have to love it.
I did check out his booty, but I think you told us too!
Robin
Both by boys say Sinking Ship –
I Love your room. Now, no doing school work anywhere else in the house…
Your schoolroom is gorgeous! WOW! I love the dark colors too. We don’t believe in pastels in this family!!!!It looks great!
I guess a seaplane too. I don’t know, I haven’t played Pictionary in a while. But me and my bestfriend, we can guess before the other takes the cap off the pen. Weird!
Jennifer
It’s functional with lovely clean lines and, yet, not cold or institutional at all. What a wonderful place for you all to learn in! Great job! (The pink paint thing would have driven me batty, too.)
As for the pictionary guess, I’ve got nothin’.
Now, I gotta ask…how mortified was your hubby at the booty pic?
I’m getting a school room this year too
But yours is giving me SO many good ideas
I’m guessing “FLOAT”
Wow. Wow. Wow. All kinds of fabulous learning can happen in a room like that! LOVE the cork idea!
I’m guessing Navy Seal… just because all my other guesses have been guessed.
Hmmm… I’m gonna say it’s a monkey riding on a roller-skate-wearing elephant.
Did I get it right?
VERY cool room! All that book storage. Awesome!
Wow!!!! Your school room is rockin’! Love, love, love the built-ins and your countertop and your cork floor/board walls and the paint color and Handy Man’s buns are quite nice as well–hey, you are the one who directed our attention there!
My guess is a sea plane. Hope you are staying warm and not slipping and sliding on the ice!
Okay, I don’t think I have EVER had room envy like this. Man that is a gorgeous room and I am so copying the cork flooring on the wall idea. Done deal, written in my notebook. Gonna copy. Thank you very much.
My guess? I US Wave.
I have no idea. I’m too in awe of that awesome school room.
Seaplane I’m thinking
and Nice job on the school room
And yes I really like the cork flooring on the walls–warms everything up as well as being practical.
LOVE LOVE LOVE your school room! Colors are great. We are packed into our tiny spare bedroom, all that room would be lovely.
I have no good guess. Spacecraft landing on the water??
I too know the strong/hateful/despising feeling you speak of! I have been living with pink walls for 2.5 years now. They were supposed to be a warm beige, but they look like foundation. I knew they were all wrong when I was talking to a friend and her face kept blending into the wall. I would totally change them if I weren’t 9 months pregnant and trying to move! But enough about my paint woes!
You are truly blessed to have such a killer room! I will have sweet dreams of your room tonight, and try not to be envious ;-D
My first Pictionary instinct would be “seaplane”.
I keep trying to think of some phrase. That sorta sounds like shoe down water. Or shoe down wave. But I got nothin’ – except water shoe. I hope that IS a shoe…
